Welcome to the first demo launch of Magic Mineral.

Introduction:

  • Implemented an atmospheric intro cutscene to set the tone for the game.
  • Established the premise: Players find themselves in a dark cave and must navigate through a maze-like labyrinth with limited and dimming light. The main motivation is to go deeper and deeper to find the magic

Challenges:

  • Initial conceptualization and brainstorming for the game mechanics.
  • Deciding on the visual style and atmosphere to evoke a sense of suspense and mystery.

Enemies:

  • Added two distinct enemies to increase gameplay variety.
    • Slow Light-Fearing Enemy:
      • Reacts to light sources and avoids them.
    • Fast Pursuer Enemy:
      • Fearless of light and relentlessly chases the player.

Gameplay Dynamics:

  • Balanced enemy behaviors to create tension and challenge for players.
  • Implemented the interaction between player actions and enemy responses.

Level Design

  • Developed five working levels with increasing complexity.
  • Introduced a limited light mechanic to intensify the survival aspect.
  • The light is rechargeable by collecting a certain gem
  • Added spirit whistles to tell the story of the past explorers who died
  • Enhanced the visual experience through technical art, lighting effects, particles, and shaders.

Environment Design:

  • Created maze-like environments to challenge players' navigation skills.
  • Experimented with different lighting setups to achieve the desired atmosphere.

Art Assets:

  • Designed and implemented original art assets in pixel style for the game.
  • Animated characters with an 8-directional walk cycle to enhance visual appeal.
  • Ensured art style consistency to maintain immersion.

Technical Art:

  • Implemented technical art techniques to optimize performance and visual quality.
  • Explored creative ways to use lighting and shaders for a captivating experience.
